Independence
The older I get, the more I realize the importance of independence. I know of people who use other people to support or supplement their living and I equate that situation to flying a plane over the ocean without knowing how much gas is in the tank. It is a possible disaster waiting to happen.
I don't believe in being prideful, though. There will be times when we all will experience a humbling situation in our life and will need assistance. But living life with the expectation that someone will give you something or should give you something can lead to a ruinous, life-altering setback.

How come when I read this posting I think of so many people I know as well as so many people we know. It is a shame how so many poeple take the easy way out and then get mad when something does not go their way when the odds were no in their favor. Sometimes you just need to spread your wings and attempt to fly. You might be amazed at how high you can soar. Worse cas scenario is you fall on your face, figure out what went wrong, re-group and try again.

We have "easy way out" people in our lives. Hopefully they will all get the pictue. The last three lines of your post is the most awesome statement I have heard today.
